Is Effexor The Right Equivalent To Pristiq?

Hi my insurance company has pulled Pristiq right out from Under me after 6 years of it working perfectly. My doctor has put me on Effexor. I can't stop crying or get a hold of my sanity. I feel like I've gone cold turkey. I was on 100mg of Pristiq and now I'm on 150mg of Effexor. Things are not good. Is this the right equivalent?

Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries

I can understand your concern. Pristiq is Desvenlafaxine and Effexor is Venlafaxine. Both drugs belongs to same group of antidepressants and anti anxiety drugs. Desvenlafaxine is d-isomer of Venlafaxine. In general 37.5 mg of Venlafaxine is equivalent to 50 mg of doses of Desvenlafaxine though there is no clear cut dose equivalence. So in my opinion your doses are right and if you are having some symptoms they could be due to some psychological dependence attached with Pristiq or due to some other cause. Discuss with your doctor if symptoms persist.

Thanks, Take care
