Is Duloxetine Effective In The Treatment Of Fibromyalgia?

I have fibromyalgia and have just started taking Dulexitine. It’s been six days now. How long does it take to start being effective. I am still in pain and suffering from a loss of sleep most nights. I also have a prescription For hydro codone 325 mg I have no adverse reaction when I take hydrocodone. Is it safe to take when I am taking Dulexitine. I am 65, 135 pounds female and in excellent health otherwise. I take no other prescriptions. I do know that I should avoid NSAIDS when taking the Dulexitine. Thank you

Hello,

Unfortunately, fibromyalgia is very difficult to treat though not a serious disease at all. A lot of drugs have been tried however the best among them is probably duloxetine. However, this cannot be said that when and how much responsibility would be there. So you better give it a trial. These drugs generally take a few weeks to start working.

The Combination with opioids needs some more care as they can rarely cause serotonin syndrome. You better study about that and take care that is not a common adverse effect and you should not worry a lot about that but just being careful. The best thing would be to use opioid only when needed.

I personally ask people to continue duloxetine and use opioids the minimum needed. Disturbed sleep is common with fibromyalgia, however, trying to have a good sleep helps a lot with symptoms of fibromyalgia.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mahboob Ur Rahman
