Is Doxycycline Tablet The Right Medicine For Gum Infection?

I have taken doxycycline off and on over the last several months for a gum infection. I have become anemic and take iron but now the Dr. wants to do a colonoscopy because blood turned up in stool sample. Do you think the anemia and blood in stool could have been caused by the use of Doxy? When I take it I take 20 milligrams 2X daily?

Welcome at HCM
I have gone through your query and being your physician i completely understand your health concerns.
what is ur age? For how long u are suffering from it? Any other associated problem? like diabetes or hypertension? Are u running fever? Any other lymph node swelling in ur body? Is swelling on both sides of neck or not? any fresh bleed through rectum? any history of black stools?
As far as gum infection is concerned i don't think doxycycline is an appropriate antibiotics. there are other good option like METRONIDAZOLE with AMOXICILLIN...you should discuss it with your doctor regarding it.
Doxycycline in my opinion doesn't cause blood in stools nor it causes anemia. it usually causes slight derangement in liver function along with skin sensitivity
you should meet GASTROENTEROLOGIST so that u can be examined and investigated fully.
Meanwhile stay calm and use acetaminophen to relieve pain

Hope your query is adequately addressed if you still have any feel free to ask
