Is Desonide The Right Medication For Lip Eczema?

I have what I think is lip exzema (?). My dermatologist prescribed Desonide, which I have used irregularly for two or three years...especially when the weather is dry. But I use several lip balms, too, in an effort to not damage my lips, which are cracked at this time. The Desonide is used maybe once in the morning and I have finally begun applying it to my lips, but with no plan in mind. What do you recommend?

Hi.
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems you have lip eczema or Eczematous Chelitis leading to Dry, chapped and cracked lips..
It can occur due to causes like Atopic Dermatitis that is genetic in origin while other cause can be allergic reaction or irritants causing Allergic Contact DERMATITIS..
Although Desonode that is a Steroid is appropriate for reducing the symptoms and providing relief but I would still suggest you to consult a Dermatologist and get evaluated and he can advise you investigations like Patch test, Prick test and/or Photopatch test for confirming the diagnosis..
You can be advised to apply thick coat of Petroleum jelly, beeswax containing lip balm and Steroid ointment for relief..
You should avoid licking or sucking the lips and also drink plenty of water..
In case of allergic reaction avoiding exposure to allergen and taking antihistamines can help..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
