Is Cyclacur Like Normal Birth Control Pills?

Dear Doctor, What is Cyclacur? There was a report last week from an American health organization about the side effects of BIrth Control Pills, in particular blot clots. Is Cyclacur like normal birth control pills? And how long can one safely stay on them? Are they used for menopause? I do know that they are used for some Fertility Treatments. I m 47 years old. Thank You

Hi,

Cyclanur contains Estradiol and Norgestrel which acts as a Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) for oestrogen deficiency symptoms in perimenopausal and postmenopausal women. It is for the prevention of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women who are at a high risk of future fractures, who are intolerant of or are contraindicated for other medicinal products approved for the prevention of osteoporosis.

For women still having periods, the first tablet should be taken on the 5th day of their menstrual period. If menstruation has stopped or is infrequent or sporadic, then the first tablet can be taken any time. Cyclanur is usually only required for short time relief from menopausal symptoms and its use should be reviewed at least once a year with your doctor.

Take care. Hope I have answered your questions. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Zubayer Alam, General And Family Physician
