Is Coscopin Effective In Relieving Long Lasting Cough?

Hi Doctor, I am having severe cough for the last 10 days. I am getting treatment for the same by an MD but it does not appear to go away. Doctor says it is seasonal allergy/viral and it may take time. I do not think the Medicine is not so advanced that cannot resolve a normal cough in 10 days. I have done chest x-ray and blood tests which have been normal. One of my friend recommended me Coscopin cough syrup as he had the same problem and it resolved. He last year also had the same problem and was prescribed the same cough syrup and it helped a lot. So, i want to know if i can also take the same and will i be helped by the same. Please help!

Dear friend,sometimes cough becomes nagging.You are having acute cough, probably due to infection.Even after the infection is cleared it may persist for few weeks.It's called Post infectious cough.It's not harmful but irritating.You did not mention whether you are having dry cough or with some expectoration.If there's some sputum then you can go for testing it (Gram stain,Culture sensitivity,ZN stain).But if it's dry cough then I would suggest you to take Sy.Grillinctus- 2 teaspoonful twice a day before food for 7days.By the way,the duration of cough is too short to think of any bigger diagnosis at present (eg.cough variant asthma).Good luck and get well soon.
