Is Clindamycin Phosphate Gel Effective In The Treatment Of Itchy Bumps On The Back?

I am currently using a medication called clindamycin Phosphate Gel USP 1%. I am using it on my back. My back constantly itches and has bumps in various areas of my back. Will this medication relieve the constant itching, and if not what kind of medication do you recommend? Also I have been on dialysis for three years. Could this be a reason for the constant itching and bumps.

Hi,

Clindamycin is an antibiotic and effective on acne lesions. You seem to suffer from prurigo simplex. So, it is not effective on the itchy lesions of back. You may apply mild steroid cream and take antihistaminics like cetirizine. However, consult the dermatologist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Ilyas Patel, Dermatologist
