Is Ciprofloxacin The Right Medicine For Diverticulitis?

Hi I went to dr on friday for severe stomic pain and blotting.dr gave me fagyl and ciprofloxacin because i have a history of daverticulitus. anyway i started to feel worse and went back today to find out i have a bladder infection and kidney problems. and c.t. scan showed a small case of daverticulitus. so she told me to stop taking flagyl and only take ciprofloxacin for three more days?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Yes, Ciprofloxacin, Sulfamethazone, and Trimethoprim, including Mocifloxacine are useful in diverticulitis.

Eat high fibre and soft diet. If symptoms do not improve, please consult your doctor who will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Penchila Prasad Kandikattu
