Is Cefdinir 300 Mg Advisable For Sore Throat, Cough And Pharyngitis?
my husband has had a sore throat, cough and Pharyngitis for more then a week now. He was given Prednidsone 20 mg for three days. I t did not help went back to the health clinc because we can not get in to see our own Doctor and was given Cefdinir 300 mg. my husband has C diff from a infection he got in the hospital three years ago and this may be one of the side effects he also got very dizzy after taking just one capsule.Is this medication safe for him if not what other course should we take to get him well?

Cefdinir is an antibiotic with a very wide spectrum which means that it has the chance of killing a wide range of bacteria including the good ones that the bowel hosts.
In this case the risk for C. Difficile infection is increased due to alteration of the normal flora that prevents growth of C. Difficile and is a possible side effect with all wide spectrum antibiotics.
It is important to talk to the doctor and ask what infection specifically did your husband have? If he has tonsillitis then oral penicillin can be used which addresses well the infection but has less effect on the normal flora.
Oral probiotics, while he uses antibiotics, can help protect the normal bowel flora.
