Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is this medicine used for depression and anxiety? My doctor just wrote me a script for Buspirone 7.5 2x daily. I have been on other depression medicines but have been trying hard to stay off anything for 10 mos. She is recommending that I take this because I cry easily and have started having anxiety. I hate crying and can t give people my thoughts or sympathy. Does this medication cause weight gain? Thanks
Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries
I can understand your concern. Buspirone is an anti anxiety and anti depressant drug. The drug is a safe drug and can be taken for severe anxiety conditions. Buspirone is not a very useful drug for depressive conditions but the drug helps to relieve the anxiety so can be utilised in depression also. 7.5 MG doses twice a day are fine doses and would not cause much side effects. The drug is not associated with dependence and abuse potential like benzodiazepines. Sedation, dizziness, nausea etc can occur at high doses but at normal prescribed doses the drug is safe. These medicine doses are not associated with any significant risk of weight gain and can be used without fear. No need to worry.
Thanks, I hope this helps you. Take care.
