Is Aspirin And Diclofenac Similar?

im trying to find out if aspirin and diclofenac are both the same. i am allergic to aspirin (or so i was told since childhood). i had kawasaki's disease, was treated directly under th supervision of dr kawasaki (via telephone-japan). over 24 adult aspirin's every 24hrs for almost 3wks... they said i may develope a sensitivity towards it- maybe an allergy at worse, my parents never took that chance of what could happen. i have a bunch of physical problems and have been going through a variety of meds to find what works. i was just recently prescribed "diclofenac" 50mg- even tho they know the aspirin bit. they said if any serious side effect go to th ER... ??? i was just trying to make sure this stuff isn't th same- he said th active ingredients weren't th same.... thank you- morgan

Hi,

Welcome to Healthcare Magic. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Though both Aspirin and Diclofenac work as pain killer, however their chemistry is very different. So yes, there is a little chance that you may have cross sensitivity but chance is very little. So I would suggest you can use it but with caution. The best advice is to start is in low dose and then increase it as needed. Just to say that the even on edges not have hypersensitivity to a son he can have it to other drug. But mostly the reactions are not serious and manageable by stopping the drugs with rare exception of few drugs.

I hope I have answered your query. Let me know if you have any further questions.

Take care.
