Hallow Dear,
You have mentioned that the baby's heart beats are not recorded. It may be too early to get heart beats. You may repeat scan after one week to find out the status of heart beats.
Will you please get confirmed the status and appearance of
Gestational sac at this stage? When the sac does not contain baby (embryo) it is
Blighted ovum. In this condition, though the Gestational sac is present, it is not turgid and hence its edges are irregular or corrugated. Please get the information about it from the doctor who has performed
ultrasonography on you.
If the sac is irregular, indicating blighted ovum, you will have to terminate the
pregnancy. In fact majority of blighted ovum pregnancies abort spontaneously and do not require any intervention. However, if this is a blighted ovum and does not terminate spontaneously, you may have to undergo Medical termination of pregnancy. Suchan early pregnancy may be terminated by medicines and you need not opt for d & c (
dilatation and curettage). Tab. Mifepristone followed by Tab.
Misoprostol can terminate the pregnancy up to 9 weeks of gestation very safely and effectively.
If the sac report is not available, or if your doctor cannot reach the diagnosis of blighted ovum at this stage, please repeat ultrasonography after a week or 10 days to have correct diagnosis before you take any decision.
I feel, with availability of Medical Termination of Pregnancy facilities, D & C is not a first choice of termination of pregnancy. Even if the medicines fail, pregnancy may be terminated by aspiration of
uterine cavity by MVA syringe which is a much simpler and quick method.
For further more guidance and advice, you may ask me Direct question when I can discuss certain issues with you before you take any hasty step.
I hope you got the message.
