It is low. Normal is 60 to 100 bpm. You need to get yourself evaluated by a physician. Highly athletic youngsters can have such a low rate normally. Still, many serious diseases need to be ruled out.

I am an active healthy 47 year old female. I teach Zumba so I do cardio 7 hours/week. My typical resting blood pressure reading is 100/70. My resting heart rate is typically 50-55 beats per minute). It was even 48 bpm last week on the blood pressure reading which I thought was really low .. and my blood pressure has been as low as 96/69 recently. Over the past month, I ve been really feeling my heart beat in my chest a lot and it seems to be pumping hard and even faster then, especially when I lie down at night to sleep, but I m feeling it right now actually. It almost feels like a vibration along with the beat.
