Is 1000mcg Of Daily Biotin Intake Safe For A Healthy Person?

My daily multi vitamin has had a formula change. This time the amount of biotin has increased from 300 mcg to 1000 mcg, which the manufacturer states is the new FDA guideline. Is this daily increase to 1000 mcg safe? I would prefer to have my original formula, and supplement if I need it on my own.

Hello,

I can understand your concern regarding the dosage of Biotin. Yes, a dose of 1000 mcg is considered to be safe for a healthy person. Biotin (Vitamin B7) is present in many foods and available as a supplement and is required for the healthy growth of the hairs.

There's no recommended dietary allowance (RDA) for biotin, only suggested adequate intake levels. The daily increased amount of 1000 mcg is safe as Biotin is a water soluble vitamin and is usually safe even in larger than recommended doses.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,

General & Family Physician Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali's  Response
Hello,

I can understand your concern regarding the daily dose of Biotin.

Biotin is a water soluble vitamin used to prevent or treat biotin deficiency states. It supports the health of the skin, nerves, digestive tract, metabolism, and cells.

Biotin seems to be safe and well-tolerated. No side effects have been reported for Biotin in amounts up to 10 milligrams a day.

So, in view of the above a daily dose of 1000 mcg of Biotin can be taken safely.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
