Irregular Periods. USG Pelvis Ultrasonography Done. What Does The Findings Mean?

Hi, I am 23 years old, unmarried. I had my last periods mid-February 2013, and its been 2 months since then with no periods(today-30th April). My periods were usually irregular, with a cycle of around 37 days. My "USG Pelvis" ultrasonography(done today) report says:
UB: Normally distended. No intraluminal lesion noted. UB wall is normal.
Uterus: is normal in size, shape & echotexture. Central endometrial echo is thickened measuring 19mm & myometrial echo is normal. Endometrial thickness measures upto 3.3mm.
Uterus measures: 51 by 80 by 35 mm
Ovaries: are normal in size, shape & show multiple small cysts predominantly located peripherally. No dominant or developing follicle noted at present. Right ovary measures: 52 by 21 mm; Left ovary: 42 by 20 mm.
No free fluid seen in POD.

Kindly suggest what should I infer from this? Do I have PCOS? Can I have problems relate to infertlity & other health issues? Any cure/treatment? Thank you.

The findings indicate first of all, No pregnancy as you accurately stated since your irregular in your menstrual cycles, since the endometrial wall is thickened it means that you should be having your period probably in the following days, the measures of the uterus indicate everything is normal.
The ovaries have multiple small cysts which could be an early developments of PCOS, what basically happens is that the hormones produced by this cause an imbalance in your hormonal cycle, usually this if not corrected could lead to fertility problems if not treated but don't worry usually it's simple to correct, the best way would be to contact your gynecologist so he can balance the hormone levels sometimes even changing from a birth control to another can correct it, other factors like diet, exercise and smoking also affect your hormone levels and should be mentioned to your physician. If you have any more question feel free to ask

Hi,
You are 23/F, unmarried, c/o irregular periods with a cycle of around 37 days (for several years) Your LMP was on mid Feb. 2013, after that no periods
USG done - you have elaborately written the report which is fully normal, except multiple small cysts predominantly located peripherally. We call it as Poly cystic ovary.
Understand that the causative factor is if at all only little hormonal imbalance. If possible do Tyhyroid profile, along with LH And FSH ( Follicle stimulating hormone). For you I expect no major hormonal changes. Leave it as such, take healthy food, no tension you will be alright.
Treatment:
Regarding the treatment, if you are obese, reduce the weight by whatever means available
Reducing insulin resistance by improving insulin sensitivity through medications such as metformin, and the newer thiazolidinedione will help.
Regarding medications consult gynecologist, because the dose of metformin and duration differs from Dr to Dr.
In general your problem is commonest problem for girls of this age group. Some people may say infertility. But even if thyroid is secreted less it can be corrected very easily, So don't worry.
For getting regular periods the dr may give a contraceptive type of tab for 3 or 4 mths.
Best wishes.
