Hi doc,I took postinor 2 contraceptive just after the unprotected sexual intercourse, then took the 2nd tablet not up to 12 hours after taking the 1st,3days later my mensuration came which was not suppose to be as I just saw it 2weeks earlier,so my question now is was that actual my mensuration or virgina bleeding ,because it came out as ma normal mensuration with pains and all and 2ndly counting afta d date of impromptu mensuration,my mensuration for this month was due to come on sunday/monday which was the 28th day but 2day is wednesday and it hasn t yet come am I pregnant or what?but the test strip I used indicates am not pregnant,so what is actually the problem is it dat the test strip is ineffective,or its my mensural cycle that has changed?

The use of emergency contraception is known to cause menstrual disturbances as the pill contains large doses of hormone that disturbs the normal cyclical pattern. This is the reason for the bleeding seen after the pill usage; it is the withdrawal bleed. Also, you are likely to have cycle disturbances for the next couple of cycles. therefore, it is not advisable to use the pill as a routine, reserve it for extreme conditions. See your doctor for further suggestions.Take care.

Following taking postinor 2 as emergency contraceptive pill, a withdrawal bleeding similar to period occurs within 7 days. It is quite common & normal phenomena. Next period may be delayed or earlier due to hormonal imbalance.

Postinor 2 is highly effective (more than 99%) against unwanted pregnancy. Early pregnancy test is no value. You have to wait for next coming period and home pregnancy test can be done after 7 days of next missed period to exclude/ confirm pregnancy.

Avoid stress, take healthy diet with iron supplements, maintain genital hygiene and need adequate rest. Also practice safe sex by using safe period/OCP/Condom etc to avoid unwanted pregnancy & unnecessary vaginal bleeding.

Be well & take care.
