Irregular, Long Periods. Pelvic Exam, Blood Work, Thyroid Test Normal. Possible Hormonal Imbalance?

I am 53. I recently had a pap smear/pelvic exam and blood work done including checking my thyroid all during my annual physical. All results came back normal. My periods used to be very normal, ie. not too heavy, very regular, and lasting about a week. But, for the last 1 or two years, my periods have been extremely irregular in that they rarely occur and I barely bleed. My concern is, I've had a period for over 2 weeks now. Bleeding was a bit heavier, but nothing major. I had a headache for a couple days, but the bleeding seems to linger, very lightly. Should I simply assume it's from hormonal imbalance?

Hello.
Thanks for writing to us.
The irregular and prolonged periods that you have are likely to be due to dysfunctional uterine bleeding. This happens due to mild hormonal disturbance and can be controlled with the hormonal therapy. Do consult your gynecologist for the same.
I hope this information has been both informative and helpful for you.

Hi,
From history it seems that this is hormonal imbalance caused by menopause.
due to hot flushes you might got headache and feeling run down.
Attend Menopausal clinic and seek advice.
Ok and take care.
