Iris Has A Bubble In Baby. Why Discomfort? Worry?
Hi, I have a five month baby boy and recently noticed a small clear bubble on the edge of his iris (in the white of his pupil) on his left eye ( nose side). It is not causing him any discomfort and is about the size of a pin head. The doctors have never seen it before but have advised to monitor. Can you give me any further information or should I be more persistent and request to see an Opthamologist? Many thanks

you should know that iris is a diaphragm like structure seen inside the eye which on external examination is the pigmented circle of the eye. it has a central hole, which is called pupil and is darker almost black and not white. the white part of the eye is called sclera, which is coverd by a membrane called conjunctiva. if the bubble you see is in this area, you need not worry. but if it is in the iris or pupil that i have explained above, you have to consult an eye specialist as early as possible

As from the history your baby is having a small swelling adjacent to the cornea in the white part of the eye, conjunctiva. If symptoms suggestive of inflammation like pain, redness, watering are absent, no need to worry you can monitor wait and see as advised by your doctors.
It can be a because of small fingernail injury or because of allergy affection of the conjunctiva which may resolve on its own. Since it is not causing any symptoms you can observe it, if it wont resolve then please do consult ophthalmologist.
