Intense sore throat, pressure causing difficulty in swallowing saliva, no relief with home remedies. OTC medicines?

I ve had a sore throat for 3 days now. No fever. No cough. No headaches. No sinus pressure. I can barely swallow water much less eat soup or anything easy. My voice keeps coming and going. I ve tried cough syrup , gargling warm salt water, cough drops, drinking warm tea with Ginger and honey . Nothing eases it. It basically feels like I have a water balloon in my throat and as the day wears on, it feels like it s closing up ... but it doesn t. The pressure I feel makes swallowing my own saliva painful. Getting a doctor appointment would take at least a week and I could really use some over the counter suggestions. Please and thank you.

Welcome to HCM.

Hi i think you might be having tonsillitis.

It can be caused by either viruses or bacterias.

In case of viral antibiotic will be of no help. Symptomatic treatment should be taken like get enough rest, drink warm or very cold fluids to ease throat pain, eat smooth foods, such as flavored gelatins, ice cream, or applesauce, use a cool-mist vaporizer or humidifier in your room, gargle with warm salt water, suck on lozenges containing benzocaine or other anesthetics, take over-the-counter pain relievers such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen.

Usually it will take at least a week for viral infection to subside.

I advice you to follow the conservative approach first if does not reduce you need to see a ENT surgeon to know to out the cause also to have a course of antibiotic.

Hope I have provided the information you needed.
Wish you good health.
Take care.
