Infant With Abnormal Blood Test Reports. Splitting Of White Blood Cells. Reason?

my 7 month old granddaughter has had abnormal blood work from 1 month old. they keep saying that her white blood cells are splitting and they don't know why. she went to a baby doctor and he doesn't know why or what is going on, said he never saw it before like this, but she is to come back in 3 months and will see. does this sound very strange or is it just me?
