Infant On Breast Milk Refusing The Formula. What To Do?
Hi. My baby is 6 months old and 14 pounds. She's been exclusively breastfed but a month ago, I need to go back to work. And since I am on the field, it is impossible for me to pump. I'm out from 8am to 5pm and she'd rather take water from the bottle than formula. Today, she took 3 ounces of water and 2 ounces of milk. By the way, I still breastfeed her when I'm around. But my supply is low and I'm sure she's not having enough. What can I do to get her take more formula than water and breastmilk?
Hi and thanks for the query, It s important to note that the transition should be gradual and not drastic. A drastic change could lead to manifestations and consequences in the baby like vomiting, weight loss, diarhea and at times allergies. You could start by breastfeeding her so much when you are there out of work hours an introducing an appropriate formula based on the advice you shall get from your pediatrician. Doing it gradually an during the appropriate milk formula for her age are the key determinants of success. I suggest you consult your pediatrician for nutritional advice. Thanks and best regards, Luchuo, MD.
