Infant. Loose, Green Stool With Foul Smell, Reduced Frequency Of Passing Stools After Changing Diet. Prescribed Econorm Granules. Advice
Hi Doc,
My 10 month old baby is having loose green stool for the last 9 days with foul smell. Sometimes the stool turns yellow. For the first three days he used to pass stool for 8-9 times, after I changed the diet to curd,rice, butter milk, coconut water it has gone down to 3-4 times tough the loose green part is still there. The medication prescribed is econorm granules( 1 sachet mix with food twice daily) He is still on breast milk, otherwise he is having food.
Please advise

the treatment you are giving and the diet are alright
please give walamycin 5ml twice daily along with econorm
it willtake 3-4 days for cure

continue with the feeding schedule as you are giving to your baby along with the medicine prescribed.please add syp zinconia 5 ml once daily for 14 days to it.it contains zinc.if you are already giving it to your baby thn plz dont add it.since the episodes of diarrhoea has crossed beyond 7 days and if it still persists thn you will have to add an antibiotic to it after having the stool test.but if the baby is improving with the current regimen thn continue with it.add econorm sachet to fresh curd and thn give it to your baby it will add to its effects.hoping a speedy recovery for your child.

Loose motions are mostly viral in nature and takes few days to settle.
But this is good that after change of diet it has come down to 3 to 4 times.
Regarding green color there is not much to worry as this is due to rapid transition of stools.
Maintain and monitor his hydration.
Give him oral rehydration solution after each loose stool.
Give lemonade,buttermilk,coconut water.curd,rice porridge,banana,boiled potato.
Continue with breast feeding.
Continue with probiotic.Give zinc 5ml once a day for 14 days.
Monitor his urine output/activity/feeding pattern
In case symptoms persist get him evaluated by pediatrician for further management.
