Indigestion, Intense Belching And Flatus, Bloating And Discomfort, Menopausal, Have Lower Back Pain, Prescribed Acid Reflux Medicines. Help?

I ve been having very bad indigestion for about a week, a lot of belching and some flatulence , generally feeling very, very bloated and uncomfortable. I am female, 51 yrs old post menopausal, I am now having lower back pain and pain from lower abdomen to below rib cage. I do not have acid reflux but have felt nauseous, I also feel quite constipated and have little appetite. I did go to emerg on Sat because both parents died of heart attacks and mothers started with severe indigestion, but my oxygen level and blood pressure were normal and blood tests and cardiology machine did not detect any sign of heart failure , they prescribed acid reflux meds which has settled the indigestion somewhat at least I can lay down now to sleep, prior to this I had to try to sleep propped up.

Hi,
Thanks for writing your query.

After reading your post, it seems that your symptoms are due to gastritis.

An Endoscopy may be helpful to confirm the diagnosis. Also get your stool examined.

I would advise that you should take an antacid like Omeprazole 40mg once a day before meals along with Domperidone 30mg.
A probiotic along with digestive enzyme preparation containing pepsin and fungal diastase after meals will have added benefits.

Following precautions will be helpful :-
1.Avoid spicy and oily foods.
2.Avoid being empty stomach for long periods.
3.Avoid mental and emotional stress.
4.Avoid smoking and alcohol, if any.
5.Avoid self medications, especially pain killers and steroids.
6.Drink lots of water daily.
7.Eat light meals prepared under hygienic conditions.
8.Avoid gas producing foods like peas, cabbage, legumes, etc.

I hope this is helpful to you.
Thanks.
