Does Methadone Causes Muscle Weakness?

I m afraid that my sister has taken methadone, that isn t prescribed to her. She began to have muscle weakness, the inability to squeeze my hand, she has a addiction to pain killers. She was taken to the hospital by ambulance. I m just trying to get answers.

Hello,

Methadone may cause the patient to be lightheaded or feel faint which may be seen as a weakness in some cases. It does not cause direct muscular weakness in itself.
On the other hand, even the lightheadedness and feeling faint are not specific to Methadone, so it is not possible to say for sure based on these or the weakness she had that she is using Methadone.

There are many other causes that may cause similar symptoms and a good visit and possibly tests will be needed to clarify the cause.
