Yes ignore cholesterol, full stop. Half the people who have a heart attack have 'normal cholesterol'. The stress caused by worrying about cholesterol levels will do more harm than the cholesterol itself. Many people giving out advice here are simply regurgitating baseless drivel with no idea what they are talking about. You can safely ignore anyone who says; "cholesterol is a waxy substance that sticks to the walls of your arteries" This is absolutely bollocks. Cholesterol is transported around the blood in lipoproteins. THESE are what is measured on your blood test. The cholesterol is only given to cells that 'ask' for it, by way of a specific receptor. The lining of arteries, the endothelium, is a smooth surface designed to allow blood flow. Nothing sticks to it. If this is damaged, then in response to the inflammation lipids and cholesterol will be deposited, later during the process. http://circ.ahajournals.org/cgi/content/abstract/6/4/481 "There are two types of Cholesterol" (using the terms good and bad) There is only one type of cholesterol and that is cholesterol. The difference is in the lipoproteins that carry it around the body. The idea of good and bad is ludicrous, All lipoproteins have a purpose. They do not behave like juvenile delinquents, running about causing mindless damage.

I am 70 years of age, and I have been diagnosed with malignant neurocardiogenic syndrome, I have obviously suffered with this most of my life as I can recall fainting spells since about 14 years of age but had never been diagnosed before, this time I was diagnosed after fainting during a tilt test and I was prescribed atenolol. I did take this for a while but found it slowed me down and when I didn t take it I experienced episodes of an sudden unstable high pulse rate. I realized that this was probably a reaction to the stopping taking the atenolol but I have continued to not take the betablocker and the sudden attacks of high pulse rate, etc., have now stopped. I haven t had a fainting episode for some time. I know I have to be careful first thing in the morning and I cannot stand still for too long, I avoid drinking alchohol and I know there are various other things which can trigger an attack which I try to avoid. When I was diagnosed I was also found to have high blood pressure at times which I was told made it more difficult to treat I know my blood pressure can suddenly go up at times, but I have bought a home monitor and I have been keeping a record and I now find that my blood pressure is fairly normal most of the time and often quite low first thing in the morning. I have also been told that I have high cholesterol. As I know there is not a cure for vasovagal syndrome and I feel that taking the beta-blockers was only masking the problem and did have some side effects I think I am better to just keep an eye on my blood pressure, take regular exercise and I have changed my diet to include garlic, herbs peppers and other foods which might help my condition. One thing that puzzles me rather is that my pulse rate is usually higher ( although not too high about 75-80 ) when I wake first thing in the morning and then drops down to about 60 when I am up and about.

Dear colleaggues, I'm Ingrid Hilman, MD, 58 years. had my stenting on 17 Feb, 3 stents in LAD and RCA.

Since 2 weeks ago, I develop severe headaches, esp during the iningt or when I wake up in the morning and also palpitation (heart rate > 90). I feel weak during palpitation. I do not have hypertension (my BP is between 90-110 and 70-80). I do not have obesity, smoking habits, my lab is pretty good only LDL 100.

Is this because of the herbresser that I take 3 times a day?

Other drug that I take;

- Aspirin 1 x 100 mg

- Plavix 1 x 75 mg

- Lipitor 1 x 10 mg.

Appreciate your inputs on my above complaints. Thank you very much

I am a 25 yr old female that has recently lost 70 pounds and suffers from pcos. I am off all the bp medicines I was taking, and have been on a gluten free diet since 4/21/11 b/c I am allergic to wheat. I have been getting dizzy, lightheaded, and have a fast heart rate and low blood pressure when standing or sitting up. my heart rate is usually in the 60 -70 range when resting, and it's been in the high 90 - 100 range while resting. The dizziness started Sunday 6/19/11 all of a sudden, and I have kept track of my BP and symptoms since Sunday. I get this intense pressure in my head, and the get dizzy, and my heart will race when I start to feel yucky, I have trouble breathing, when my heart rate is up this high for no apparent reason. My BP will be 93/62 and HR 101 standing, or it can be 114/65 and HR 80 a few minutes later.. but if I go from lying down to sitting, it will be elevated, then it elevates when I stand, if I lay down everything is fine.. the pressure in my head goes away, the dizzyness goes away, and the HR goes back to normal... I have a shunt in place for hydrocephalus, my first shunt was placed at the age of two weeks, and first revision was done 4/5/2010. I want to know what is causing this fluctuation in BP and the dizziness, and fast HR...thanks
