Does Rabies Vaccine Give Lifetime Immunity?

I was slightly bitten by my dog last April 12,2017. I had been injected with anti tetanus and completed the doses for rabies. Yesterday, I was bitten again by my dog , is it required of me to be vaccinated again? Is my previous vaccination still effective? Thank you Doc

Hello,

If a similar patient comes to my OPD as you have already taken a complete course of vaccine before, you will have to take booster doses.

The first dose ideally should be on the day of exposure and the second 3 days later. kindly vaccinate your dog too. So have your booster dose soon. thank you.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Jilu Joseph, General & Family Physician
