What Could Be The Cause For Severe Itching And Burning Sensation In The Vaginal Area Post UTI?

I was on Bactrim for 7 days for a urinary tract infection. After having been off it for a little more than a week. I developed intense itching and burning in the vaginal area. Would this be a yeast infection after having been off the Bactrim for a week. There is no discharge, just the itching and burning.Thank you.

Hello,

Since you are having severe itching & burning sensation in the vaginal area & have a history of UTI you should get a repeat urine examination done ( R/E & C/S). You may need another course of antibiotics.

In the meantime, you can apply clotrimazole cream in the affected area or you can also apply canesten clotrimazole pessary into the vagina. You can repeat it after 5 days if the itching does not go.

Take care of your hygiene, wear cotton clothes & drink plenty of water. Avoid douching, stay away from sex. Get your partner have urinalysis done to rule out UTI.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K
