I was in the e.r. last sunday. Left leg was tore up from insect bites. Now infected. Doctor told me cellulitis and staph infection. Treatment included 1 500mg pill of CEPHALEXIN 4 times a day for 10 days. Benadryl for the itch. It has been 5 days and the leg still leaks fluid. A slightly honey color has scabbed on the wounds. And the leg swell is worst. Should i wait it out and continue the prescrbed treatment. Or return to the e.r.

do I need to go to the ER with bad pain in the back of my left leg? Ive experienced severe pain for 3 days to the point of tears and difficulty walking. THEN this morning I woke up and it felt absolutely fine. I spent most of the day lying in bed with leg elevated though because it started throbbing from behind my left knee up into my hip. Ive taken 800mg Ibuprofen 2x already today. (Saturday and Sunday I drove a total of 15 hours to get my husband to his appointment in TX). In 1978 I had phlebitis so bad I was made to quit work and go on bedrest for 3 months. About 8-10 years ago I had a problem with sciatic nerve in my left leg for about 6 months.... thanks for any input, but just need reassurance if I need an ER visit.bjtea

On Sunday night, I called my doctor because of symptoms I suspected to be cellulitis of my left lower extremity (fever of 101.5 for 2 days, chills, achy joints, significant swelling, redness, pain in the lower left leg. The region was very warm to the touch, and had doubled I size within 24 hours). She sent me to the er to be evaluated for blood clots as well as cellulitis because I am obese and have an injury to my right leg that limits my mobility for the moment. My ultrasound was negative for blood clots, so the er doc gave me a script for clindamycin and sent me home. My fever is basically gone (temp is still slightly above my average at 99.4), and discomfort is better, but the swelling hasn t resolved at all, and the skin now has dark reddish-purple splotches. Is this within the normal range after 48 hours of treatment? Should I call my doctor again?
