Does My Swollen Leg With Slight Honey Color Discharge Need Immediate Attention?

I was in the e.r. last sunday. Left leg was tore up from insect bites. Now infected. Doctor told me cellulitis and staph infection. Treatment included 1 500mg pill of CEPHALEXIN 4 times a day for 10 days. Benadryl for the itch. It has been 5 days and the leg still leaks fluid. A slightly honey color has scabbed on the wounds. And the leg swell is worst. Should i wait it out and continue the prescrbed treatment. Or return to the e.r.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Since it has been 5 days & your symptom is not responding to the oral antibiotic treatment & its infected because fluid (pus) is oozing out of it.

You are suggested to visit the ER. You need to be treated by intravenous fluids & intravenous antibiotics.

Get physically examined, your treating doctor may need to drain the wound if required. In the meantime, take care of your hygiene.

Take non-sedating antihistamines & acetaminophen for pain. If diabetic control your sugar levels.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
