Is Metoprolol To Be Blamed After Two Episodes Of Tarry Stool?

I was given Metoprolol tartrates 50mg bd after having heart surgery in 2013. Last year, I had four days of passing tarry stool associated with dropping of my HB from 140 to 110. Urgent gastroscopy done and few weeks later a colonoscopy both were NAD. On Sep. 2018, I had operation on dislocated left ankle followed by Clexane SC injection which continued for 15 day after which I developed tarry stool again also for four days, urgent gastroscopy showed gastritis and biopsy was negative for Helicobacter Pylori, I was booked for colonoscopy again in Dec.2018. Is Metoprolol to be blamed for these two episodes of tarry stool?

Hi,

It is possible that Metoprolol could be causing the tarry stool, but it is important to note that tarry stool can have many potential causes. Tarry stool is often a sign of gastrointestinal bleeding and could be related to the use of Metoprolol, but it could also be related to other factors such as gastritis or other underlying medical conditions.

It is important to speak with your healthcare provider about your symptoms and any concerns you may have about your medication. They may want to conduct further tests to determine the cause of your tarry stool and ensure that you are receiving appropriate treatment.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
