It's the same thing - Electrocardiogram. EKG is the old abbreviation. An ECG (or EKG) uses 12 electrodes placed on the chest, arms, and legs for a comprehensive view of the heart's rhythm to check for abnormalities is rhythm or rate.

My Mom had Cardioversion last Thursday and it was unsuccessful and then had a pacemaker placed on Monday and went home from the hospital this past Tuesday. She has developed a sore throat, more on one side and feels like it might be one of her tonsils. Could this be in any way related to her surgery? Also, she has been feeling, what she says, feels like palpitations. Could this be due to her heart maybe slowing down and the pacemaker taking effect and getting her heart back in rhythym? Thank you!
Hello, Over the past 6 weeks I have been having heart palpitations, along with rapid heart rate (90-110 resting) and hand tremors. I am an otherwise healthy 29 yr old women. I saw my dr and he did ekg and labs. My blood work came back normal, and my ekg showed incomplete rt bundle branch block. I just saw a cardiologist today, and he ordered a holter monitor and echo. He doesn't seemed concerned with my symptoms. He listened to my heart rate sitting (in the 80's) then had me stand quickly and it jumped up past 100. He says this makes him think I may be lacking sodium?? He says I should eat more salty foods. I feel like I do, however, I watch my intake and aviod salt when possible. I really don't think I am lacking salt in my diet. Do you think the lack of over salted foods could cause these symtoms suddenly? Thank you...
What can cause this? Every day i get small amounts of chest pain randomly. I eat correct and exercise. I have no reason to stress and this has been going on since i was a child. I ve been to many doctors and none help. I get skipped beats that make me want to pass out. And i always hear my heart beat pounding away. I simply ignore it. After a while if the pain is bad it will start a numbness in my finger tips and travel to my arms. All my ekg s are normal and the doctor told me it was a innocent murmur. I have a relaxed mind so it s not mental. I know that for sure. Can you help me?
