Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is There A Possibility Of Nerve Damage Due A Needle Insertion For Drawing Blood?
I received a blood test 2 months ago and still have pain around the area where the needle was inserted. Sometimes radiates down my arm up to my wrist. There was no bruising after the initial blood test. The only question the technician asked me at the time was if I was on blood thinners as there was a lot of bleeding. I am not on blood thinners and am very healthy. I stopped at the clinic today where I received the blood work and she said could be nerve damage. What can I do to heal this injury?
Nerve damage is a very uncommon side effect of injections but it can happen. I suggest to use anti inflammatory medications such as Acetaminophen to relieve the symptoms. I also suggest to use cold compresses to relieve the pain. The symptoms will relieve in a few days.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
