Are Symptoms Such As Neck And Shoulder Pain And Fever Related To Dengue?

I live in Virginia Beach, VA. Last Monday, 10/22/18, I woke up with pains in my neck and shoulder and general aching. Thinking it was due to heavy gardening work, I took 2 XX Tylenol and got through until about 3pm and it started up again,. I took 2 more and continued my day. By 8:30pm, it started up getting worse so I took a hot bath with epsom salts. When I got out of the tub, it was like a brick hit me. My fever shot up, I began to shiver uncontrollably, and all of my bones began to hurt. I thought it was the flu and wet to bed with more tylenol. By Tuesday, my bones hurt so bad it felt like they were all broken and the fever raged all day along with the pain. The fever broke that afternoon and the pain started to subside. I began to wonder if this could have been dengue fever. We have had a lot of rain and many mosquitoes this year.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

The presentation of dengue fever is similar to other viral infection. In viral infection fever, muscle pain and bone pain may persist for three to five days.

If it remains more than that I suggest investigating with full CBC to check differential count and platelet count.

Without dengue Elisa report, dengue cannot be excluded. Meanwhile, paracetamol can be taken sos as you are taking it. You can revert back with reports if done.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Parth Goswami, General & Family Physician
