Max should be under 200. However they prefer that you be closer to 100. Losing a lot of weight would help. If diet and exercise don't bring it down you need to ask about medicines. High cholesterol is not a joke - heart attacks and stroke are almost inevitable as you age unless you clean up your act.

Hi. I ve been seeing a doctor for 3 months. I m 55, female, not over weight. I have HBP and am on Atenelol 50mg. Blood test have been coming back with high potassium (5.4-6.1). Also have high cholesterol which I have determined is familial hypercholesterolemia. Total is 353, LDL is 170 and HDL is a beautiful 164. These #s are after 2 months of eating fish and chicken only. I DO NOT eat fast food at all. Love my homemade soups but they re filled with potassium. What isn t filled with K??? Cardboard is the only thing I ve found without K. With the elevated potassium, MD suggested I see a nephrologist even though BUN is 10, Creatinine Serum is .80. What should I expect at a nephrologist office? Also, MD wanted to get me on Lipitor and I refused as it can cause liver, kidney risks. Why put me on a drug that can affect my kidneys yet send me to a nephrologist at the same time? I m getting more confused and nervous about what to expect. Thank you for your help.
