I Have Horrible Swollen Throat Even Though On Antibiotics, Why?

I ws diagnosed with strep throat on Thurs and started 875 mg twice a day of amoxicillin that day. I took two doses Thurs and Fri and one dose today. I no longer have fever and chills, but my throat is swollen so bad it is almost shut! I can hardly sleep because my throat feels like it is closing. What can I do, since I am already on antibiotics? I have been drinking chamomile tea several times a day and a little bit of soup, I really can t eat much else from the pain and choking feeling I get from it. Help!!!

hi Rachel,
have you taken any pain killer along with antibiotics. if not then take pain killer and do the mouth gargling and who advised dosage and dose of antibiotic? Its better if you take same antibiotic 500mg 3 to 4 times a day. if you already taking analgesic and other things then you might need intravenous antibiotic and strong pain killer for which you might have to stay one or two days in hospital.

I have been taking motrin around the clock, it helps reduce fever, but it does not help with the throat pain. My local Dr. is the one who prescribed the antibiotics. I really did'nt want to go to the ER, but I guess I don't have much choice. Thanks for your input!!
