My husband, age 62 had extensive by-pass surgery 12 years ago. One year ago he was hospitalized for A-fib. This past October, 2016, he had an M.I and 2 stents were put it. He had an Eco last week and as a result is ejection fraction numbers now put him in the range for congestive heart failure . This week he has a Pet scan stress test. Options such as an implanted defribrillator and or a pace maker are now being discussed as next steps.Any information etc. is very welcomed.

My 81 year old husband had a severe brain hemorrhage in 1997 and bilateral subdural hematomas from a fall in 2000 resulting in 4 months of hospitalization with 5 craniotomies secondary to a brain abscess. In 2008 he developed Capgras syndrome which cleared in 48 hours after starting Aricept. He is still on it plus Namenda. In the past 2 months he has developed a severe deterioration of his long term memory for important dates and events. Coincidentally, he has developed an eosinophilia of 30%!!!!! He is to see his internist in two days plus the cardiologist, since he had a pace maker implanted in October. Are there any suggestions to a possible relationship to his neurological problem and his eosinophi He does not have parasites and no other medical problems, nor any new drugs other than his cardiac pills for congestive heart failure. By the way, we are both retired physicians. Thank you for any insight you can give us. Sincerely yours. Vivian K. Dorsch, M.D.

My mother has congestive heart failure and also Afib in which isn t responding enough with medication. With medication the lowest her heart rate has been while resting is 110. She is 77 years old and moderately overweight. Her cardiologist wants her to get a pace maker but she has refused? I am trying to convince her to get the pacemaker but she s afraid because she has an extremely hard time coming out of anestesia. How long can she live with a heart rate of 120 to 170? And how risky is pacemaker surgery?
