What Medical Condition Could Cause Severe Pain In The Joints Of The Arms And Fingers?

I have been having terrible pain in my fingers and arm joints. An x ray earlier this week showed my tendon in my finger pulled away from the bone and the bone has splintered at the location. I have not had an injury; i was watching TV the night I felt burning pain. Now I can barely move it and my other finger and my elbow are experiencing similar pain now too. What could this be?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

The commonest cause of sudden pains in small joints are as follows:
Viral inflammation.
Rheumatoid arthritis.
Autoimmune diseases.
These can be diagnosed by the following ways:
Consult an Orthopedic Surgeon or a Rheumatologist as would be advised by your PCP.
Tests of blood for Rheumatoid arthritis, Calcium, Uric acid and so on as needed.
Till then take an anti-inflammatory medications with painkiller properties as per your body weight.
Give rest to the affected parts.
Further specific management will be as per the cause found and may need oral or local steroids, anti-inflammatory medications and specific medicines for Rheumatoid arthritis or so.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
