Does Hypertension Cause Blurry Vision?

I have a question. Myself and my husband was out shopping and he stated he didn t feel right. He had lost his peripheral vision and other vision was blurry. We went home and I took his vitals B/P 220/118 P 80 resp 18 and O2 sats were 96%, since then this am his vision is still slightly blurry and B/P 180/110but when he cough he bets a sharp pain like a migraine on his left side of head but only when he coughs. He does have HTN and is taking medication for this. He don t want to go to the ER afraid they will keep him. What do you say.

Hi,

You should go to the ER and yes HTN can damage the optic nerve and cause vision problems. With a high blood pressure like that, you should get help immediately.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Harshita, Ophthalmologist
