I Have A Bitter Taste And Smell. Can It Be For Sinus Infection?

I ve had cold symtoms for 5 or 6 days, starting with a sore throat , then chest congestion , sinus congestion, headaches, etc. Suddenly last night at dinner, I began to experience an odd taste in my mouth. I thought perhaps a chemical had not been rinsed from my drinking glass, however this has persisted. Now, the odd taste won t go away, and everything now smells the same way. The taste is horrible and persistent. I had been taking Mucinex DM. Is there a chance this is a side effect of that medication, or perhaps a symptom of a sinus infection?

Since it happened at dinner, I would suggest that it could be acid reflux. Sometimes acid reflux occurs during colds and flus.

Hello There..
Welcome to healthcare magic forum..
It is because of sinus infection.. You need a dose of antibiotic to relive your symptoms.
Also you need to do steam inhalation to relive the congestion.
Hope this helps..
Take care..

Hi,

Welcome to HealthcareMagic Forum
This is a case of sinusitis, you need to consult your ENT specialist and get appropriate medicines. The change in taste and smell is because of the sinus problem itself. Till then, you can continue with mucinex, drink plenty of warm water and use saline nasal drops 3-4times/day.
Take care
