After a total knee replacement is it possible to do too much excercise? I seem to be able to walk quite a distance comfortably and bend my knee and sit upright. Stairs are ok too. I walk about quite a lot and someone has told me not to do it as it could cause problems with blood clots. I am still wearing the socks and I had the op 10 dys ago.

I need total knee replacement but instead the doctor prescribed a wheelchair and told me he would not do any surgery until and unless my weight got below 240 pounds. Is the a common criteria because I was doing 10,000 steps per day when he turned me down and exercising 4-1/2 hours per week to be a good surgery candidate. Now I don t even bother to count steps an pain wise I am near the point I may have to cut back walking in water from 1-1/2 hours per session to 1 hour. I have been at close to the same weight now for about a decade with no weight related problems. I am an early senior citizen (under 70) and weight less than 300 pounds but at a height of 64 inches, so you could say I have a height deficit if being funny. I gained the weight the doctor wants me to lose entirely from high dose steroid treatment for a work injury, but it has persisted.

The present problem is if I move to walk from the rest period while sitting position or lying position, I am feeling difficult to walk upto 10 to 15 foot , and then it will become normal walk. During this time I feel some what pain around the Knee - left and right. There is no probem while walking or climbing steps of two to three floors. No drugs are used now. Please advise me.
