Hi I am due to start radiation to my tonsil (which will impact on my jaw bone) and have been advised to use Duraphat during treatment to prevent decay and increase saliva. I have excellent teeth, no fillings and am 43. Whilst i don t mind using during treatment, I have been this is my toothpaste for life post treatment. I read the contra indications with the product and see i can no longer drink tap water, use salt and there are numerous risks with this product. Is it really essential to use it post treatment? Thanks Valerie Dublin

hi I am a 57yo post 5 month radiation-chemo from tonsillar cancer. I did amazingly well through treatment but here is my issue. I have had rather bad GERD for about 5 yrs. During treatment I had a sore mouth but probably, because of the restricted diet, for the first time in years I had 3 months of NO sore throat! Once back on a regular diet however, the reflux has come back with avengance_super sore throat in morning. I worry about what this is doing to the radiation site which has obviously been fried. Is it extra sore because of the radiation? How long does soreness last post radiation? Have been to my GP and tried a new PPI with no change. I know that with just a glass of wine I pay an even bigger price. Any advice? My oncology check ups have been good. Josey

Our friend has stage 4 tonsil cancer. he went by way of alternative treatment and did radiation and hyperthermia treatment. This started in Fall of 2009. It worked until February of this year. He was given a high dose of steroids that made him very ill. While he was being weaned off the steroids for two months his tumor markers went up. He is stage four and can t eat or drink. He is in Los Angeles and just wanted to know where to go from here. They are looking at taking him to City of Hope. Thank you for your time.
