I can't buy into any therapy that has the amount of known side effects that statins do. Most doctors that I deal with go right to statin therapy and bypass what the guidelines are for cholesterol reduction. The national standard is dietary modification including adding a good quality fiber and plant sterols. I've rarely seen them take patients through that first. There are very effective ways to change the diet (not always the tastiest stuff in the world) and a few good fiber sources around that I'm aware of. I would aggressively do (not try...says Yoda) those and show the doc the results so you can get off the drug. Personally, I'd stop taking it right away but that's just me. Hope this helps. I had open heart surgery 6 yrs. ago, repaired valve and closed up hole, and I recently had what they called a TIA. I ve been on blood thinners for all this time because I have AFib and suffered a blood clot 6 yrs. ago before surgery. Since the TIA and many tests now hey say I do not have high Cholestrol & no clogged arteries and they couldn t find a brain bleed but they want me to start Statins. I hate to take more medicines if I can avoid it. They say because I am high risk they might help prevent another stroke. How do they help if I don t even have a cholesterol problem & do you think I should take them? Thank you..

I had three back surgeries within one months time last surgery March 3, 2013. Sciatica. The surgeon nicked my dura sac, he did not realize just how bad I was until he went in for the surgery. I ended up with a hematoma and had my second surgery. Then I got sepsis and had my third surgery. It has been a little over a year now and I am in a lot of pain. Back, buttock and down the leg on the right side. I did have pain in both legs before the surgery. The pain is unbearable most of the time. I saw him today and he said there is nothing I can do for you. He said the hematoma caused nerve damage. My life is pretty much nonexsistence. I also have arthritis in my back and have fibromyalgia. Just how much of this is it the doctors fault for what happened to me? I also developed ulnar neuropathy and my rotator cuffs are bad. I have tingling, numbess, pins and needles in my left hand pretty much all the time. What they cannot figure out is why I have pain from my shoulder down to my hand. They say it is not caused from my neck.
