I am 54 years old I am a white female with chronic pain I have had since 2001 when I was diagnosed at Shands Hospital in Florida. I had had chronic pain from TMJ and had already had one surgery on both jaws in Augusta, Georgia from Dr. Anthony Neal. He went in both sides of my jaws and sucked out all of the cartilage that had come loose from my jaws which he said was from arthritis in my jaw joints. I was in bed and knocked out for a week with very strong pain medication and finally was able to get up and just sit on the couch or lay on it. I had a machine that I had to put in my mouth and pump my jaws open 500 times a day. This worked for a little while but I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia at the Shands Hospital in Florida in 2001. The physical therapist that worked on me told my parents that I was decrapite and she didn t know if I would ever get better. Well I went home and started exercising on the floor of my living room and I got some better but I was still in so much pain that I went to a pain clinic and I was prescribed Oxicotin 80 mg every 6 hours and 30 mg for break through pain I did not know what I was taking and how addictive it was. My husband could not stand it because I just quit taking it and I had the worst withdrawal symptoms in the world. I could not sleep or be still. I was so nervous and agitated that I finally went to my parents and told them and they took me to the pain clinic and went to talk to the doctor. He wanted to put me back on the oxycotin and I would not go back on it. So he put me on an anti-depressant that put me to sleep as soon as I put It under my tongue. So I was getting enough sleep but as soon as I woke up I was so nervous that I could not stand it. I cried a lot and all I wanted was to be with my family and I was but I was not getting any better because of the effects of coming off of the oxycotin cold turkey. My husband got me to see a Christian therapist who really did not help me because all she wanted me to do was to get into a group therapy for depression. I went one time and that was it. My husband was tired of it and told he wanted me to either get better right now or get out of the house. So my parents came and got me and I had to leave my children. That just about killed me. My daughter was like 11 years old. My husband filed for a legal separation and filed a motion to keep me away from my children. So I went to stay with my parents and my father took me to a psychiatrist who specialized in pain management. He was wonderful at first he put me on 10 mg of methadone and it helped me tremendously. It took away my nervousness but it really did not control my pain because it was so great. So eventually he put me on Cymbalta, Lortabs 10 and Xanax. It all helped me so much but then I messed up a disc In my lower back and had to have back surgery. After the back surgery the doctor quit taking medicare so I had to find a new psychiatrist and a pain clinic. I found a new psychiatrist but he would not prescribe me Xanax. I went to a pain clinic because I tore the rotator cuff In my right shoulder and had surgery and during physical therapy a piece of bone broke off and I could not move my right arm. The doctor did surgery but I could not move my right arm and he told me that he could not do anything for me and sent me to a pain clinic which prescribed me Norco 10 and it really helped my arm pain. Well about three months later I broke my right ankle. It twisted to the left and broke and then it twisted to the right and broke. I called my father and he came and took me to the hospital and this doctor operated on it and I went home and I was out of my pain medicine from the pain clinic and the doctor wrote me a prescription for Norco 10 and I got it filled. I did not know that I could not get another prescription for pain medicine from another doctor. But I got it filled because it was past time for me to get my prescription from the pain clinic. Well my father took me to the pain clinic for my next appointment in a wheelchair because I could not walk because a pin had come out of my ankle and I had to have another surgery. So when I went into the pain clinic the doctor saw on the computer where I had gotten pain medicine from my surgeon and he would not prescribe me any more pain medicine. So I had to get my family doctor to send a referral to another pain clinic and I got in and everything was good until I broke my left arm in three places and had to have surgery and after that surgery when they put the cast on it two screws camel loose and I was in so much pain that I went to the doctor and told him how bad it hurt and he x-rayed it and saw that the screws had come loose and he sent me to another doctor who is a very good trauma specialist and she put me in the hospital and operated on it in this year late February. I stayed in the hospital for four days and finally went home both of these doctors gave me pain medicine and the pain clinic was fine with it. They knew that I was in a lot of pain and when I went back to them they gave me Percocet 10 mg. They never got onto me for getting pain medicine from the doctors because I had given out of their prescription and they knew that I needed the medicine. Well everything was fine until July 22, 2017 and I had to take a urine test. I thought it was strange because the lady handed me the specimen cup and she did not have me initial it like I usually did. So anyway I took the cup into the bathroom and it did not have my name on it. I thought this was not right but I went ahead and urinated into the cup and I could not get the lid screwed on right I tried several times it just would not fasten right so I placed the lid on the cup the best I could and put it into the slot where we put the urine samples. Well when I went back on August 22, 2017 I went in and had all my vitals taken and the nurse left and the doctor came that I had been seeing for a couple of months and she told me that the head of the pain clinic had stopped my narcotics because the urine drug test came back showing that there was cocaine in my system. I was shocked beyond belief. I told the doctor that I did not do illegal drugs and the cocaine was a false positive. So she brought Dr. Tafor the head of the clinic in and I told him that I had not done cocaine that I did not do illegal drugs. I mean mentally sane person would do an illegal drug knowing that they had to take a urine test that day. He just sat back and laughed at me and told me not to come back. Well I went home and wrote a letter to the pharmacist who did the drug test and sent her several articles from the internet that talked about false positive drug test and what could cause them. I copied Dr. Tafor and Dr. Warren. Most of the items or incidents that were on the articles I could relate to: I am a diabetic, I had take amoxacillan two weeks prior to the drug test. I take several of the medications that it said could cause a false positive for cocaine. I am waiting to hear from the pharmacist I sent it certified mail return receipt requested. I am now trying to get into a pain clinic with a referral from my orthopedist trauma doctor and I am having PT and OT twice a week in my home. I have one prescription left from my orthopedist that I get filled next Tuesday. So I am just hoping and praying that I can get into another pain clinic. That is my story. I live with chronic pain everyday from the time I get up until the time I go to bed and get maybe 4 or 5 hours sleep at the most. Thank you for letting me share this with you. God bless and take care. Tracy A.Queen
I have fibromyalgia, diagnosed in 2000...it s a constant problem. The last several days it has started effecting the right side of my face, along my jaw, both top & bottom. I also have TMJ, diagnosed in mid-1980 s. It doesn t feel like TMJ, my teeth are in very good condition. It feels like I ve been hit across my cheek, from chin to ear, w/ a 2x4. I live w/ pain everyday from the fibro, but this is EXTREME and unpredictable. I have no way of knowing when it s going to start, no precursors... My medications: Venlafaxine HCL 75mg, 2 tabs 2x/day; furosemide 40mg, 1/day; adderall 30mg, 1tab 2x/day; Zyrtec-D 1/day. I don t have anything for pain because nothing works for me other than Valium...I ve been through Mays & Schnapps Pain Clinic, 16 prescriptions -never again!!! Is there anything new that might help? I have a high tolerance to pain meds and a low tolerance to pain. I m not a drug seeker, so please don t recommend oxy-anything. It does not work for me. Can you please help me?
I m a 48 year old female patient who has been doctoring for the past four years for what my Dr. Thought might be fibromyalgia. Here are a list of my symptoms. I have a motility disorder which makes it dificult for my food to move along my digestive tract. I also had GERD and Barretts esophagus so I had a partial wrap done a few years ago. Since then that is doing better. In Dec of 2011 I had n abdomimal hysterectomy I then started having deep pain iin my arms and in the joints of my hands lasti9ng for about a month. I went in to have it checked and my doctor thought that maybe I had some tendonitis going on and had me try some excercises and had me wear some braces for awhile. I did all that I could but the pain continued and really hurt.....started to feel like it was really deep like in my bones. hen it would let up some fter lasting for abut three months and then start up again even worse3 eventually including all of my body. I eventually started having trouble getting around because I was also really stiff and rigid feeling. I started feeling a little confused and noticed that cognitively I wasn t the same. I went to a neurologist and he did a CT scan and an EMG to test for MS AT that timme he said I didn t have enough criteria to meet an MS diagnosis but he couldn t say it isn t MS. So I go bck to my family Dr and they continue to treat me for fibro as I continue to progress to get worse. I have been told and also researched fibro and it s not a progressive illness so I m thinking this isn t Fibro. I can t help but think something is being overlooked and that maybe there i9s someone out there who could help me. I believe I will be in a wheel chair by7 this time next year because I have progressed to not being able to walk far at all this year because it s jus\t so painful for me. If you can thin of anything that might benefit my doctors or myself please feel free to contact me. I did change Fmily practioners recently and mine is wonderful and she is doing some research as she too believes some things have been over looked. I do however know that rhumatoid arthritis and lupus have been ruled out.
Dear Sir/ Madam, My name is Sonia, I suffer from mild epilepsy. I haven t had a seizure for 1yr and 2 months. Without sounding strange I tend to hear at times a screeching sound like when you scratch a balloon. Does this mean anything? Is it linked to my epilepsy? I take Carbamazephine 500mg in the morning, 100mg in the afternoon and 500mg in the evening. I can see the side effects it has on me although I am glad its stopping me from having physical fits. Side effects include gaining weight, my intellect has become slower and I find it hard to grasp certain info. I feel depressed at times and now this screeching noise is odd. What can be the cause of this? I use to have a very slight stamner when I was younger but kind of grew out of it when I was younger. You couldn t tell I have one but occasionally it comes out. Just recently its bugging me, probably because I am stressed. Could you give me any advice?
Hello. I am in my early fifties, and have always had issues with constipation. I eat a very well balanced diet, full of green vegetables, lean protein choices, and copious water. I don t drink alcohol, though I am on an anti convulsant since having had one seizure twenty years ago. I am active, strong, and fit. I ve had recently tried magnesium citrate, and have finally found some reliable relief. I ve heard so many conflicting opinions on the goodness of magnesium to its condemnation as a chronic addition to my evening routine. Is there a definitive answer? I will be asking my doctor , as I ve neglected to address this issue with her before. May I get yet one more opinion? Thanking you I advance, Cathy
