Im 26 YR old female that recently stoped smoking but did so for 11 years before I stopped. The last 3 mths I've been having trouble breathing and my lungs hurt so bad. Pain and burning and it seems hard to take in a satisfying breath. Its suddenly hard to do small things like walk across a room talking at the same time. I had asthma as a child but have never had trouble with it as anadult I fear the worse and don't have insurance. I went to the er a mounth ago and they did a xray and said my lungs looked fine but that they wouldn't long because I smoked so young. He never told me strait out or did any breathing test but on my discharge paper they put cops. If this is the case why didn't he tell me. Why is it all of a sudden so bad. And is it normal for it to pop up so bad out of no where. Could this be a lung infection or a related problem with my heart. Because I get sharp pains in it sometimes. ( daily) oh also dr said oxygen levels were good and so was blood counts.
hello and welcome to healthcare magic!!
well the effects of chronic smoking for 11 long years will definitely be there and copd is chronic obstructive pulmonary disease which is seen in chronic smokers where the lungs start losing their normal elastic tendency what you are experiencing is mostly because of that i feel you should continue the medications given and also you can take nebulisation for breathing discomfort periodically.take care.

Doctor, I am madhumathi Andrews working in central govt. office as a Accountant, for the past two I was suffering from Acute Bronchitis, Docts treated with antibiotics and with nebulisation, Then on I was suffering from short breath, so I went to Mallaya Hospital and checked with pulmonologist, there they took nasak xray and chest xray ,then they said because of growth in the nose (almost like adenoids) or fibres , so they operated my growth and operated little extra flesh from , ie., my nose. But then on I shifted my house where there is full of pollution with smoke, which is near to close to main road, and our house is polluted with carbon smoke from the vehicles. So we decided to close our windows completely so that any smoke entres. But one more problem also started short breath. I feel very tight in my lungs when I breath, I feel like breathing more and more but with great difficulty by pressing to the side of my ears I have to take my breathe. Again I went and consulted Dr.Satish pulmonologist, he jsut examined me and did not do any lung xray but just asked to blow and he said I am very fine , nothing to worry. But now from the past two days I am getting litlle blood sputum , but no cold or cough. Kindly advise me immediately what I should I do . A word of reply from your end will be highly appreciated, I am much worried
i have had in the last 2 months, 3 times that after i have swallowed some food that was spicy, and a sip of coffee, then some coke, my throat making me feel like i m loosing my breath. only happens for a few seconds, then i m fine. but now making me scared everytime i swallow food or water that i am going to choke. i was walking daily, until it happened about 2 weeks ago-now i m scared that it will happen while i m walking. has never happened other than when i swallowed food or liquid. i did quit smoking after 9 years (quit 2 months ago) so was wondering if i could be having some type of asthma or copd attack..other than this i have had some problems with my hands as in what feels like carpal tunnel. other than these things, i feel fine. 51 yo male5 11 175 lbs in 1986 had a collapsed lung-had surgery to remove (if i remember correctly) a cyst from the plural lining-surgery went good--never had anymore problems. (yes-i know was dumb to pick up cigarettes again) other than that, lost insurance coverage many years ago--last physical in 2002--everything was good.
I am an 84 year old female, diagnosed with COPD and a torturous esophagus, suffering with chronic fluid discharge from nasal passages and throat, particularly about 1/2 hour after arising. This discharge with coughing is thick, yellow, slimy and sometime stringy. Can this fluid discharge be attributed to either of these diagnosis?
HSP. Doctors are baffled as to what to do. Protein in urine. Weekly ck of urine/bloodwork. On Prednisone for apprx. 4weeks so far. Prednisone has healed up rash nicely but has failed to relieve any swelling much for most of the body, especially the lower legs, ankles and feet. Some complaints of stomach (area)discomfort. No fever. CBC has been done as well as several. CT Scan done, kidney biopsy done and was admitted one day to hospital for that and per nephrologist orders. Sent home with more Prednisone,Lasix(dbl prev dose) and a medication to regulate protein in the urine. Chest X-Ray has been done and claims no apparent fluid in lungs. However, due to the swelling of stomach area and also asthmatic/COPD/Emphysema patient has complained of being much more short of breath compared to before HSP. Doctor(s)/Nephrologist say now that maybe it isn t HSP? This has got to stop and come to and end. No answers on anything much and nothing solid to go on for sure. I know this can last up to 4-8 wks for the most part and this is an adult male patient around 57yrs of age. No previous problems other than occasional bronchitis in winter month(s) and the COPD/Emphysema/Asthma and is on regular inhaler Q 4-6hrs or as needed per 4hrs. and I think an allergy and or/asthma/allergy combo medication pill taken once daily. Not super sure on that though. PLEASE HELP. THANK YOU SO MUCH.
I recently had an ECG after an abnormal EKG. The ECG showed vent. rate 108bpm Sinus tachycardia, PR interval 158 ms, possible left atrial enlargement, QRS duration 88 ms , nonspecific ST abnormality, QT/QTc 368/493 ms, abnormal ECG, P-R-T axes 70 48 58 and prolonged QT. The cardiologist didn t seem very concerned and felt the abnormality was because of the medication I was taking - remeron for sleeping; I suffer from chronic insomnia. I have been on this medication for over two years and have never had any side effects or problems with it. In the past three-four months, however, I have been experiencing chest pains, some severe which is why I went to my physician to get the first EKG which showed a fast heart beat and was referred to the cardiologist for an ECG, EKG and a stress test. I was only on the treadmill for maybe 4 1/3 minutes before I experienced SOB and chest pains. They repeated the ECG and I was told it was abnormal and to discuss my medications with my psychiatrist and that I had nothing to worry about. When I see abnormal ECG, EKG and am taking nitro tablets with a family history of heart disease (father COPD, CHF and angioplasty; grandfather died of a heart attack), I have a tendency not to believe the doctor. I have not even been contacted by my physician for a follow-up visit. Should I be concerned. Cancer also runs in my family; my father died of colon, liver CA and I am breast cancer survivor. I d appreciate your comments. Should I seek another opinion? Thanks, Mary Kopco YYYY@YYYY I am a 61 y.o. white female, 137 lbs w/ hx of cancer (bilateral mastectomy and hysterectomy for CA of uterus), osteoporosis and osteoarthritis, high cholesterol (328), allergic to any statin drugs, being treated with Zetia 10 mg 1 x/day.
