Hi,

Amlodipine besylate is a medication that is commonly used to treat high blood pressure. While it is generally considered safe and well-tolerated, like any medication, it may have potential side effects that can affect the liver.

Liver damage is a rare but serious side effect of amlodipine besylate. Symptoms of liver damage can include yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice), dark urine, abdominal pain, and nausea or vomiting. If you experience any of these symptoms, you should stop taking the medication immediately and seek medical attention.

However, it's important to note that liver damage from amlodipine besylate is rare, occurring in less than 1% of patients. Furthermore, the risk of liver damage may be higher in people who have pre-existing liver disease or who are taking other medications that can affect the liver.

Regarding the duration of the treatment, it's best to follow your doctor's instructions and take the medication for as long as they recommend. In general, amlodipine besylate is considered a safe and effective long-term treatment for high blood pressure, but your doctor will monitor your blood pressure and overall health to determine if it is necessary to adjust your dosage or switch to a different medication.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
