Can A Toe Live If The Infected Bone Is Removed?

I am a diabetic and have ha my second toe amputated in Aug this year to much removed now am told I have to have it done on my other foot the third toe, my question is can the toe live if the infected bone is removed? I don t want to loose another toe.
