Hypothyroid, Taking Liquid Thyroxine. Now Weight Gain, Hair Loss And Constipation. Advise
Hello, I have an under active thyroid and take liquid thyroxine due to an allergy of the tablet thyroxine, I have gaine a tremendous amount of weight over three stone cannot lose weight and cannot get warm. I still have many symptoms, hair loss and constipation and even though I do not suffer with a lot of tiredness I am no where near my normal self.
Hi, Welcome to HCM, You are having hypothyroidism and taking liquid Thyroxine, allergy is to the inactive contents of tablets. You need to check your Thyroid function specially TSH and if necessary titrate the dose of Thyroxine to optimize the dose. You have symptoms of constipation, hair loss once your thyroxine dose is adjusted then other causes of weight gain should be considered like excess of calories consumed and less physical exercise. Please consult Physician/Endocrinologist to see if there is any other cause and remember obesity runs in families. I hope taking liquid Thyroxine should not be issue but it's correct dose is very important. Please Take Care. Good Luck. Dr.Akhilesh Dubey M.D.
