Hypertension. Intolerance And Breathlessness While Walking. Taking Beta Blockers, Vioxx And No Ten. History Of Heart Enlargement. Should Be Worried?

Hi. I was told after having an ECG 20 years ago that I had a slightly enlarged heart and given no treatment .Today I was told the same, only it is one of the upper chambers. I have had treated hypertension for 15 yrs. I currently have no problems though sometimes wheeze which I attributed to mild asthma. My father also had an enlarged heart and died at 73. Several ECG's over the last 10 years have shown nothing. Maybe mild arrhythmia at times. Some of the medications I have taken for High BP were beta blockers which apparently I am intolerant to. Angina, breathlessness and chest pains when walking were some symptoms. Also took Vioxx and Noten-can't remember why. Am having another ECG next week. I'm 59 and was told recently that I'm healthy. Should I be worried?

Cardiologist 's  Response
Hi,

Yes there are some concerns to be worry and i want to discus them with you.

1. The vioxx has been withdrawn from the market because of it's hazzardous effect on the heart.
So i strongly suggest to stop this medication and talk with your doctor.

2. It seems like typical signs of heart angina and you should go for a cardiologist.
I strongly recommend to do ECG, heart ECHO, Stress test.

3. There's also some signs of heart failure. you should take a proper treatment after the cardiologist consultation.

Hope it answered to your concern!

Dr.Benard

p.s. If you have more concerns, feel free to write back to me! I'd be happy to assist you further.
