Hallow Dear,

Tablets Mifepristone and Misoprostol together is a good method of terminating the pregnancy up to 9 weeks of pregnancy. . In fact these medicines are not over the counter medicines and have to be taken by an Obstetrician's advice only.

However, if your have already consumed Tablet Mifepristone, I shall guide you further about completion of this course. Now 24-36 hours after Tablet Mifepristone, consume Tablet Misoprostol 400 micrograms by mouth if the pregnancy is not more than 7 weeks. If the pregnancy is not more than 9 weeks, you may take Tab. Misoprostol 800 micrograms vaginally, buccally or under the tongue.

Usually these medicines effect the termination of pregnancy successfully. However, if they fail, continuation of pregnancy is not advised as these medicines may cause abnormalities in the baby. Hence in such cases you have to report to the Obstetrician and get the pregnancy terminated - may be by surgical evacuation.

A follow up visit after 7 days or earlier if required to the Obstetrician is advised. The completion of the abortion may be assessed by ultrasonography. It takes more than a weeks' time for the urine pregnancy test to become negative, hence not advised.

Following are the possible side effects of these medicines:
1. Pain : May be managed by simple pain killers. If intolerable, report to the Obstetrician.
2. Bleeding: Excessive bleeding is usually doe to incomplete abortion. Better report to the Obstetrician for completion.
3. Fever: Indicates infection. Report to the Obstetrician.
4. Nausea & vomiting: Usually can be managed by some anti-vomiting medicines.
5. Diarrhoea: Usually it is self limiting and can be managed by oral rehydration.
6. Pelvic Infection: Should report to the Obstetrician.

I wish you uneventful termination of the pregnancy.
