How To Use Trimethoprim Cream?

My doctor prescribed Mupirocin 2% ointment for what appeared to be spifer bites on my neck and scalp last Monday. It seems to have had effect and bumps are receding. Today after results from culture came back myrsa, he added oral sulfameth/trimethoprim 800/160 mg to ointment treatment. He said to put some ointment in my nose. Prescription info specifically said do not get in eyes, mouth or nose. Is it safe to put a small amount in nose?

Thank you for asking on HealthcareMagic.com, providing better healthcare for you. A small amount of Mupirocin ointment should be applied to the affected area 3 times daily, but Mupirocin ointment is not formulated for use on mucosal surfaces, because intranasal use has been associated with isolated reports of stinging and drying. Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions. Wishing you good health.
