How To Treat Viral Infection With High Fever In A 13 Months Old Child While On Calpol And Meftal P Suspension?

My 13 months son is having high fever, 102-103. He is not sleeping in nights nor is he eating properly. I had given him Calpol however that did not work as expected, now my Doc tell me that its a viral infection and has asked me to wait for 3 days and continue with Calpol, 3ml dose every 6 hours. And to give meftal p suspension only in SOS situation ie if the temp crosses 103 F.
Is this correct dosage? He did not give a single anti-biotic? please let me know the right way or medicines to deal with the situation.

Regards,
Pravin

Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Fever is mostly viral in nature and settles in few days.
No need to give antibiotics unless bacterial infections is there.
Continue with antipyretics as advised.
Hope this helps.
Take care.
